The list of opiod complications and side effects is quite extensive. You should always pay attention to your doses and the period in which you are taking them. However, one more thing comes to mind when talking about opiods. Never mix opiods with benzos. The number of people overdosing with this mixture is rising. The other studies show the connection between opiods and certain infections. So, to answer the question of how opiods lead to fatal infections, what have studies shown?

Internal Medicine Annals Research

The latest research, which report was published in the Internal Medicine Annals, revolves around patients diagnosed with pneumococcal disease. This infection is fatal for every tenth patient who has it. Death rates steadily rise with the age of the patient. The interesting thing scientist noticed is that almost the two thirds of the people with an invasive type of this disease were using opiods.

The lead author, Mr. Wiese, didn’t want to conclude that opiods caused these infections due to lack of proof. However, he asked for caution when prescribing opiods. If you know you are at high risk of getting the invasive pneumococcal disease, you should inform your physician about it when they prescribe you the opiods.

Once again, using opiods doesn’t mean you will get the disease immediately. But the caution is needed. Also please be aware of all the complications and side effects. Opiods can help you in treating certain conditions, but they can also worsen other things. They are especially dangerous when combined with other medications.

Be always careful with medications. If your parent is taking something, make sure they are using the right medications. Also check out what drugs the elderly should avoid. And always remember this: never take any medicine if you are not absolutely sure you need it. Ask your doctor everything you need to know about a certain medicine, and if there is another way of treating your condition.
